Job Summary:

Our Group Fitness instructors teach a variety of assigned classes in our recreation program.

Under direct supervision of the Recreation Manager, provide group fitness instruction in a variety of classes, monitor & educate patrons on fitness and exercise, and maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.

Instruct a variety of cardiovascular, strength, dance, or strength and conditioning-based group fitness class formats to students, faculty, staff and members. Including: Step, Boot Camp, Spin, Pilates, Barre, Weight Training, High Intensity Interval, Kickboxing, Zumba, & Aqua Aerobics.

We currently have several openings for substitute Group Fitness Instructor.

Please note, this is an Occasional (on-call) position with a flexible work schedule.

Job Duties:

• Teach classes as assigned by the Recreation Manager, including, but not limited to, Pilates, aerobics, core conditioning, and fitness training.

• Maintains records as needed.

• Teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate warm-up,

exercises, stretching, and cool-down.

• Instruct patrons on effective workout methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises; identify different muscle groups, and teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.

• Assist patrons, answer questions, and maintain a positive exercise experience for members and class participants.

• Ensure safety standards are met, and department and facility policies are followed.

• Perform related duties as necessary.

• Attend and participate in continued education workshops and mandatory meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum two years of relevant work experience teaching multiple formats of group fitness.

• Must have current credentials and certifications and be able to maintain them throughout the course of employment.

• Group fitness instructor certification from a nationally recognized organization.

• Must have a current Red Cross CPR /AED certification before employment begins and be able to maintain it throughout the course of employment.

• Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members.

• Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and physical fitness training principles.

• Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm.

• Ability to be professional and motivate class participants.

• Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Group fitness instructor certification from nationally recognized organization, AFAA of ACE highly preferred.

• Additional specialty/certifications preferred. Ability to teach multiple group fitness formats.
