Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting runners through their marathon training? Does shaping a group of strangers into a strong team of athletes fuel your excitement? Do you enjoy creating the best path for individual runners to attain their marathon dreams? If your answers are yes, consider joining our team!

Team Brookline is currently seeking a Head Coach of our 2018 Boston Marathon team. An ideal candidate for this role would be an experienced running coach who is excited about using sport to build community, committed to helping runners achieve their marathon goals, and interested in managing a season-long training program.

Position Summary:

The head coach plays an instrumental role in our team, providing dedicated guidance and support to 30+ adult runners with a range of running experiences, from first time marathoners to veteran runners. You will be working collaboratively with the team manager and will report directly to the program director. As head coach, you’ll serve as the go-to on all things training (personalized plans, nutrition, injury prevention) and be available to support runners as needed throughout the season.

The Team Brookline training season runs from mid-November through Boston Marathon weekend in April. Team training runs are held on Saturday mornings and last 2-6 hours depending on the week’s mileage. Additionally, the head coach presents on training-related topics at monthly team meetings.

• Serve as a supportive and motivational leader to the team.
• Design personalized training schedules (running and cross-training) for each team runner based on their running experience.
• Send out weekly team emails with information about the weekend’s training run along with additional helpful training information.
• Work collaboratively with Team Manager to manage weekly long runs along the Boston Marathon course. Specific activities include: providing a detailed map of the running route, identifying water station locations along the route and creating an emergency plan in the event of a runner injury/accident.
• Assist with volunteer coordination and communication to support long runs.
• Participate in monthly team meetings and additional team events.
• Be available by phone or by email to answer training-related questions.
• Perform other duties as required.
